Las Vegas, Nevada – April 2015
The only firm event on my calendar for this entire year was a week in Vegas with some friends from home. I had made reservations at the only campground on the strip, Circus Circus RV Park, many months before and my friends stayed in the hotel. Four nights at $40 per night was very reasonable for such a convenient location. I am not much of a gambler but I do love Las Vegas. The over the top architecture and extravagant interior designs can keep me entertained for a few days every 5 years or so.
We all had a great time! It was fun to visit with people who had never been. We explored in and out of the major casinos. The Luxor:
New York New York:
We had a blast downtown on Fremont Street one night. They had the usual crazy street performers and a new attraction, a zipline over the crowds. It was pretty reasonable at only $20 so a couple of us took a ride and it was worth it. We stayed for the hourly laser show on the canopy above the street:
Red Rock Canyon is a short 20 miles from the strip and a great morning excursion when you are in the area. There are some amazing views of the surrounding mountains.
But the best part of this park is the sandstone boulders close to the parking areas that are fun and easy to climb around on.
My friends suggested we look in to spending our last day at one of the fancier casino pools. After weighing the costs and amenities of many pools we decided on the Rio. They had four pools, one of which was adult only, and they charged $90 per person for a cabana but they credited that $90 to your tab. So you got to eat and drink $90 worth of food and alcohol without guilt. At $17 per mixed drink and $6-8 per beer that didn’t take long.
It was a great experience and one I would certainly consider repeating on my next Vegas vacation.
